Alara ladies’ sewing project

On a previous trip to Kenya one of our long-term supporters, Jane George, helped the women’s group to get a sewing machine. It is housed in the community centre at Kinda Biye so they can easily have a rota to share its use.

The ladies decide which garments they make. They make clothes for themselves and their families more cheaply than buying them. Many ladies make school uniforms for their children.

They can also make garments for sale and use the profit to pay for things they can’t afford such as gutters to collect clean rain water or solar lighting.
